Sustainable Activewear Brands You’ll Want For Christmas

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the festive season — what with the increased amount of travel, the volume of single-use plastic packaging and extra delivery vans on the roads — is hardly great for the environment. But, thankfully, there’s a multitude of brands that are doing their bit to lessen their impact on the planet. What’s more, they’re the perfect purveyors of Christmas and holiday gifts for friends, family and loved ones. You’ll find them below – happy shopping.

Adidas Parley

The uber-famous sports brand is continuing its long-term partnership with Parley, a nonprofit environmental organisation, to make activewear and shoes from plastic that would have gone into the oceans. This includes Primeblue, a high-performance recycled material in some of Adidas’ best selling shoes, that’s made with Parley Ocean Plastic.

Patagonia

The outdoor clothing company that’s now a hipster stalwart, Patagonia commits 10% of all its profits to environmental causes and, for those looking to buy something new, prides itself on using recycled materials for 87% of its clothing lines.

Vivobarefoot

If you’re familiar with Vivobarefoot, you’ve probably noticed their shoes in and around your local club. Designed to mimic the natural shape of your foot (making them perfect for squatting, deadlift or lunging), the brand is now working towards a goal of using 100% recycled, biosynthetic or natural material in all of its products.

Finisterre

The British brand is now well-known for using Econyl — recycled nylon waste found in marine litter and discarded fishing nets — to create forward-thinking activewear and swimwear. For example, Finisterre’s Bora Long Sleeve Bamboo Base Layer is made with bamboo viscose, a pulp made from the cellulose of bamboo that’s extracted from the plant and turned into bamboo chips.

P.E. Nation

With fun, lively and vibrant designs, around 90% of the Australian activewear brand P.E Nation’s fabrics are made from recycled materials and environmentally-friendly polyester, along with organic cotton and compostable poly bags.
